2008 Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival
Schedule of Events


• Festival Hours:
Saturday, April 12, 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (children’s area closes at 8 p.m.)
Sunday, April 13, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Admission:
$2 per person and free for 5 years old and under.
• All events held at the Lions Club Fairgrounds, 455 School Street, Moulton, unless otherwise noted.



AC&EF ANNOUNCE FINAL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Moulton, Alabama – Final preparations are underway for the 4th annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival (AC&EF) set for April 12 and 13. From parking to free tethered hot-air balloon rides, festival organizers are preparing the Lions Club Fairgrounds for 2 days of family fun, good music, and delicious poultry entrees.



Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival Announces New Contests For 2008

Moulton, Alabama – While the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival was created as a means for educating people on the health benefits of poultry and eggs, it was also designed for entertainment purposes. Two new contests have been added to the 2008 event. The “Guitar Hero” contest and egg and spoon race join the egg toss, chicken wing and hard-boiled egg eating contests, Colonial Sanders look-a-like, “Catch-a-Falling-Egg” competition, chicken clucking contest and karaoke for big chickens.



American Red Cross to Hold Spaghetti Dinner

Moulton, Alabama – In conjunction with the 4th annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival, the American Red Cross will host a “Spaghetti Supper with Nugget and Scramble” on Friday, April 11. From 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., volunteers and representatives from the American Red Cross Morgan/Lawrence County Chapter will be serving homemade spaghetti at the Lawrence County High School cafeteria.



Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival Chair and Mascot to Make TV Appearance

Moulton, Alabama – Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival chairperson, Kathy Graham, and mascot “Scramble” will be featured on an upcoming episode of “He Cooks – She Cooks – Southern Style”. Along with promoting the Festival, Graham and Scramble will prepare a recipe for Savory Egg and Sausage Bake.



AC&EF's Motorcycle Chicken Run Announces New Route
From the Tennessee River to Bankhead National Forest

Moulton, Alabama ˆ Event organizers have announced a new route for the Motorcycle Chicken Poker Run held in conjunction with the 2008 Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival. This year‚s ride, set for Saturday, April 12, will take participants from the edge of the Tennessee River to the foothills of Bankhead National Forest.



AC&EF to Bring Magical Puppetry Program to
Lawrence County Schools

Moulton, Alabama – Elementary and middle school students in Lawrence County will be treated to special performances by WOOD & STRINGS THEATRE, a professional, national touring company featuring extraordinary use of puppetry styles from around the world, in the week leading up to the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival (AC&EF).



AC&EF in Search of Backyard Grillers for the Barbecue Chicken Cook-off

Moulton, Alabama ˆ Festival organizers for the 4th annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival are in search of backyard barbecue grillers for the Bunge Barbecue Chicken Cooking Contest. Set for April 12, 2008, the contest is coordinated by the Lawrence County Extension System and is open to anyone in Alabama.  Marshall Durbin is providing chickens for each team.

Contestants have the option of using charcoal or propane gas as their main source of cooking fuel. Each team may consist of 1-4 members with a chief cook and other members serving as assistants. The registration fee is $25 per team. Each team will receive up to 8 free tickets to the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival and 1 free festival apron per team member (up to 4 members). The contest will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12 at the Moulton Lions Club Fairgrounds.

New Chicken Parade to Kick off Festivities


Moulton, Alabama – Festival organizers are pleased to announce plans are underway for the 4th annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival, where everything chicken is celebrated. Offering poultry-related food and entertainment, the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival highlights include a chicken clucking contest, where the audience selects the winner; egg toss competition, a favorite among children; and eating contests where contestants stuff their faces with chicken wings and hard boiled eggs. This year’s festival is set for April 12 & 13 at the Lions Club Fairgrounds in Moulton.


Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival in Search of One-of-a-Kind Arts and Crafts

Moulton, Ala. – Organizers of the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival are in search of unique, handmade local items to be sold at the Arts and Crafts fair held in conjunction with the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival. The Arts and Crafts fair will be available Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.



Introducing ALC&EF newest mascot “Scramble”

Moulton, Alabama – During a press conference held at Joe Wheeler EMC on December 6, festival organizers for the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival unveiled its new mascot, Scramble. Scramble will join the festival’s official mascot, Nugget, who has been entertaining children in previous years.



Pure Prairie League to Perform at 2008
Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival


Moulton, Alabama – During a press conference held on December 6, organizers of the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival announced Pure Prairie League has been selected as the headliner band for the 2008 event. Pure Prairie League entered the music world in 1971 with their self-titled debut album and introduced the world to “pedal steel guitar”. One of the band’s most recognized songs, “Amie”, endured as a classic, is still being played today.



Moulton Set to Rock during 2008 Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival
Webb Wilder to Perform

Moulton, Alabama – Moulton is set to rock when not one, but two nationally recognized bands take to the KFC Entertainment Stage at the 4th annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival. Festival organizers are pleased to announce Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks and Pure Prairie League are set to perform on Saturday, April 12, 2008.



Festival Sponsorships – Another Avenue for Reaching Niche Market

Moulton, Ala. – While ever changing advances with internet and technology offer business leaders a multitude of marketing opportunities, festival sponsorships remains a popular outlet in reaching niche markets. Since its inception, the annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival has attracted a variety of sponsors. Along with the obvious sponsors, such as Smith Poultry and Hardware, Pepsi-Cola, Alabama Farmers Co-op, KFC, and Auburn University Poultry Science Department, organizers of the 4th annual Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival are pleased to announce three new, and not-so-typical, sponsors for this year’s event. ARAMARK, The Burch Agency, and David Burt Agency have signed on as major players with one goal in mind –to reach a niche market while giving back to the community.



Dates Announced for 2008 Little Chick Beauty Walk
Change in Date Leads to Change in Venue


Moulton, Alabama – The annual Little Chick Beauty Walk, held in conjunction with the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival, will take place one week prior to the festival. The pageant is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at the Lawrence County High School auditorium beginning at 10 a.m.



Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival In Search of Agricultural Photos

Announcing Alabama Farmer's Co-op 2008 Photo Contest

Moulton, Alabama ˆ Amateur photographers are invited to submit photographs of agricultural interest for the Alabama Farmer‚s Co-op 2008 Photo Contest. Sponsored by the Alabama Farmer‚s Co-op, the contest is held in conjunction with the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival set for April 12 and 13 at the Lions Club Fairgrounds in Moulton.
