ABOUT THE ACEF
The Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival is a two-day outdoor festival with food vendors, live entertainment on the Chicken Stage, educational exhibits, children’s activities, arts and crafts fair and much more.
In previous years officials recorded more than 15,000 people in attendance. The event is organized by the Lawrence County Arts Council and made possible through the effort of more than 400 volunteers.
Some other activities scheduled for the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival include:
• WDRM's Chicken Clucking Contest
• ACEF youth beauty pageant
• Chicken-wing eating contest,
• Hard boiled egg eating contest
• More than 100 Live Exotic Bantam Chickens
• American Cancer Society chicken bowling
• Alabama Farmers Cooperative Agriculture Photography Contest.
• Appearances by "Nugget & Scramble," the ACEF official mascots
Admission
Admission to the festival is only $3 per person and free for those under 5 years old.
Why a Chicken & Egg Festival?
According to Alabama Department of Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks, agriculture is the number one industry in Alabama. It employs over 476,000 people, which is roughly 21% of the states work force. Furthermore, producing over 1 billion birds a year, Alabama is the #3 producer in the nation.
The Lawrence County Arts Council has once again joined forces with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, Alabama Cooperative Extension Services, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel to promote and educate the patrons on the economic impact and health values of poultry and eggs.
